Gotthard Basin
The Gotthardteich, the “Blue Eye” of Merseburg, is a spacious leisure and recreation area that extends as far as the Südpark, an animal park open all year round. Fans of technology must not miss the German Chemistry Museum and the Museum Park of Aviation and Technology. Heading from the Gotthardteich towards the town centre, we come to the Gotthardstrasse, which has long been the town’s major shopping street. At the end of the Gotthardstrasse is a square known as the Entenplan, which is dominated by a rather original fountain. It is called the Zwei-Welten-Brunnen or “Two Worlds Fountain,” but to the locals it is also known as “Our History Book.”
